Haste Employees Charity Work

Many of Haste’s employees give up their spare time to perform charitable acts, and this news item covers one such act by its Health & Safety Manager - Ian Hopwood.

Just to give you a bit of history, my mum died about 8 years ago from cancer. When she was alive, she was treasurer of the Nottingham Breast Cancer Support Group, and over her years worked on all sorts of stuff and raised tens of thousands of pounds for her charity. Ever since she died, I have always wanted to do something to give something back, and always found excuses not to do things, whether it be time or work or injury. In April this year, I did the Derby 10k, a challenge as I only started running in February.

I successfully completed the run in a time of 1 hour 6 minutes and 32 sec, and raised £360 for the National Autism Trust, a charity very close to my heart following the diagnosis 2 years ago of my son at the age of 8 with high functioning autism.

I have not stopped there, I am doing another 10k at Elvaston Castle on 15th July, and the Derby 10 mile in October. I hope to do the Derby 10k and Ramathon half marathon next year, and raise more money for charity on the way.
