HASTE win E.ON's prestigious SHE award

Having demonstrated consistently high standards of leadership and innovation in their approach to safety, health and the environment HASTE have won this year’s E.ON SHE (Safety, Health & Environment) competition.

The SHE competition is open to E.ON employees, business teams and external service providers. It seeks to celebrate all the hard work that people put in over and above their “duty” to help make E.ON’s vision of zero injuries, great health and minimal environmental impact a reality.

Aware that their competition entry had reached the final, HASTE were invited to attend a presentation at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry and were thrilled to be awarded this top accolade. Iain Christie, Managing Director at HASTE commented... “Considering that this competition is open to some 27,000 E.ON suppliers it’s a fantastic achievement for HASTE – It truly recognises how passionate our management and staff are about safety, health and environment.”

During the past 12 months HASTE have undertaken various environmental initiatives to improve the company’s carbon footprint.

With almost 1 million road miles per annum one challenge was to consider and implement changes to the way HASTE used their company vehicles. A review of vehicle usage, stock in transit and routes taken, resulted in the commission of newer, smaller, more efficient vans. Further enhancements included dual fuel, speed limiters and additional driver tuition. This encouraged safer, more efficient driving skills and helped reduce ‘own fault’ accidents - There was also a positive transition from serious road traffic accidents to minor incidents.

Having implemented many improvements HASTE were pleased with the results, most notably the 34% reduction of their carbon footprint. Ian Hopwood, Business Projects Manager at Haste stated... “We recognise we have a responsibility to be more effective and efficient in the way that we do things, by working together on these initiatives we can make a real difference for our customers and the society we live in.“
